From the AICPA (something to consider after you pass the CPA Exam)

Your desire to inspire the next generation of CPAs can become a reality with the Accounting Doctoral Scholars (ADS) program.

If you’ve ever thought about teaching accounting at the college level the Accounting Doctoral Scholars (ADS) program could be for you. The ADS program addresses the demand for accounting faculty with experience in the areas of audit and tax. The program has funded the transition of 108 CPAs from practice to the classroom by providing scholars with financial assistance.

Applications are being accepted until Tuesday, September 4, 2018 for Ph.D. program applicants who will begin their programs in the fall of 2019. Applicants must be CPAs, U.S. Citizens and have 3 years of practice experience. This year, a maximum of 25 applicants will be selected to receive up to $40,000 to be disbursed in milestone payments, in addition to university-supported funding.

We are also providing up to 100 interested applications an opportunity to participate in a free half-day GMAT prep boot camp webinar on Saturday, May 5, 2018. Interested participants must fill out a brief survey and those selected will be contacted with confirmation and more program details.

Please contact Steve Matzke, Director of Faculty and University Initiatives with any questions.

To be eligible for this program the candidate must meet the following requirements:

    CPA required

Have minimum three years of responsible professional accounting experience, with a portion of that experience being within the last three years at the time of enrollment

U.S. citizen or permanent resident (green card holder)

Earned an undergraduate and/or masters degree in accounting

GMAT score of 650 or higher or an equivalent GRE score (must be less than 5 years old)

Will apply and gain acceptance to an ADS participating university to pursue a Ph.D. in accounting with a concentration in audit or tax

Plan to teach and research, in audit or tax, at an U.S. AACSB accredited university upon graduation

    Interesting concept.
Closest school on the participating list for me is NYC, and I'm all set on not going to NYC any more than I have to.

Says bachelors or masters… Can you jump from Bachelors to PHD?
Seems like they would make you get the MS first.

When I was in college back in the day, one of the professors was pursuing her PhD from the same university where she taught.
She's now the head of the accounting department/department chair?
I always enjoyed the classes she taught, I think I had her for some IT systems class, and audit.

Is there demand for accounting profs? My (limited) understanding is that, generally, a lot more people want to be in higher ed than there are jobs. I'll get a Masters in tax and a doctorate if there are actual jobs for profs!

I e-mailed Steve to inquire if I were too old for the program.
Looks like I will be taking the GMAT this summer.
See how I score on the GMAT and then check out the cost benefit analysis.
