tomc1392MemberI am in need of 12 more accounting credit hours to satisfy the requirements for licensure in Florida. I was wondering if anyone knew of any relatively inexpensive online options? I tried looking into Phoenix but they did not seem like a great option.
Thanks!

koz124MemberI've noticed here and in other threads people mentioning junior colleges. I would highly recommend talking to somebody either at Nasba or your in your states licensing departments. I know I was told (can't remember which organization) that those credits would not count unless you had them transferred to an accredited four year university.

Quoted from the CBA handbook :-
United States Recognized Schools
The CBA only accepts education completed from degree-granting colleges, universities, or other institutions of learning recognized by a United States regional institutional accrediting agency or a national accrediting agency. Most transcripts include accreditation information. If you are unsure if a college or university is accredited, you should contact the appropriate college or university directly. You can find a complete list of National Accrediting Agencies at http://www.ed.gov.

koz124MemberPersonally, since I've been through hell and back to achieve the educational requirements to sit for the exam (mandated in WI) I would not take the chance. I'm not trying to be mean, but because it states “for Community and Junior Colleges” I would absolutely double check before spending the money.

I emailed both Mission College and CBA so lets see what they say.

AnonymousInactiveSo this is the response I got from CBA
Dear
Thank you for contacting the California Board of Accountancy (CBA). Mission College is a regionally accredited degree granting institution (they confer Associate degrees). The CBA will consider coursework from this institution.
Regrettably, we are not reviewing the records of repeat applicants in advance of our receipt of a completed licensing application. The Licensing Unit will make the determination, at the time you apply for the license itself.
Sincerely,
Stephen Cooley

AnonymousInactiveI just laugh at whoever thought this 150 rule was a good idea. I know one of my college professors said he had something to do with it, but it was clearly because he wanted money for his Masters of Accountancy program. Did they not foresee all of us just looking to take the cheapest classes to get to 150?

AnonymousInactiveIs LSU also accepted by CBA ?
I think from their email they said Mission college is accepted and since its right next to my house I was thinking it would be easier to do the courses there.
I agree Bronx – its crazy how much money we need to spend now to invest in ourselves. I do not want to have to pay 20K to get a master degree if I don't have too.
Also I know CBA does not have a mandatory requirement that you have to get a Masters degree. They said they will accept course work from a community college its on their website too and now I also have their email.

AnonymousInactiveSo Looks I am good with my choice for Mission College 😀
Dear:
In response to your email, please be advised that courses completed at Mission College are acceptable towards meeting the educational requirements. The school is accredited through one of the accreditations we accept in CA.
Sincerely,

MiserylovescompanyParticipantPlease take a look at the online accounting courses offered by RVCC in NJ. The registration process can be a bit frustrating, the courses are as good as any. They are acceptable to NASBA.
Also, if you are super ambitious, consider doing a MACC from Western Givernor's University – WGU.
I looked into LSU a few years ago and I found their courses to be a bit more old fashioned “Correspondence courses”. The result, I gave up.

AnonymousInactiveThank you all for your feedback regarding this topic!! It is very much appreciated!
I have finally decided (again) to give CPA another try. The education requirements were the ones that frustrated me to the point of giving up (and that was in 2010!!)
I have different educational requirements from everyone posting on this thread since I have a college degree in Marketing/Management from out of country and many of my 3 credit classes ended up being evaluated to 1.33 credits!! On top of not having enough credits from my college degree, I was required to have graduate classes so I completed my Masters in Accounting with UOP (working full time with a toddler at the time).
Long story short, I just finished taking one Business Law class and Intermediate Accounting II and III with UOP which were paid by my job. I will need 0.34 credits (!!!) of Upper Level Accounting to sit for the CPA and 6 credits of Upper Level Accounting to get my license after I pass the exam!
I am also in Florida. I will be researching these options as well and will let you know what I find out.

I just received the response from Florida Board of Accountancy that they do accept classes from UNA, LSU as and UWF for which I was inquiring. The prices range from $475 to $600 for 3 credit class and they all offer online classes.
I decided to go with UNA since they have some classes I have not taken so far.
Good luck to you!
