I will be graduating with a BS in accounting in May. I have been accepted to and will start an 11 month MBA program in August. Does anyone think its possible to study for the CPA and complete an accelerated MBA program at the same time? I have a plan to take the AUD exam first since I am currently in my auditing class at school. I don’t want to complete two exams and then fail the last two because of the MBA. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!!

Hey you can try, it either works or it doesn't. Just because somewhere on this says it can't be done does not mean it can't be done and the opposite is true, just because someone says they did it does not mean you will be able to. It is your decision, the most you can lose is a few hundred bucks. Most of us are studying and taking the cpa exam while employed fulltime. The mba probably won't take you 40 hours aweek like a job would, so I would say it's no difference than what we are all going through. It will be tough, but probably not as tough as doing it while employed.

Yes, it can be done with just about ANYTHING else going on thar you can imagine. You may have to be more creative with how you budget your time, and of course willing to make the commitment.

So long as you meet the requirements to sit for the exam I say go for it! I was working on devising a similar plan for my cousin who is in college and is going straight for an MBA to meet the 150 and he is in Texas; but Texas requires the 150 just to sit!

Provided you can sit for the exam while in grad school, if you plan to take any accounting classes, I would try and structure your exam dates around any similar classes, ie: AUD after audit class, REG after tax class maybe BEC after a finance class, FAR after an intermediate/advanced accounting class (provided you will be taking any of these, if not come up with any of plan that makes sense). My only advice would be to pay for a book as many exams as your comfortable with; that way, they do not become a side option, but something you will incorporate into your graduate studies
