Hi Guys,

First of all, HAPPY HOLIDAY!

Okay, here are my questions… please give me your opinion!

I’m from New York City. I have a BBA major in Accounting.

Passed the CPA exam but did not finish the 150 credit requirement.

Basically, I need to study for 1 more year and then work under a CPA for a year.

Under my boss’ recommendation, I think I am going for a MBA in business

I am debating between Finance / Taxation and Marketing.

Anyone have any suggestion which one is better?

I had 2 years of experience in non-profit / governmental review +

1 year of managerial experience as the unit leader +

Somewhat 3 years of experience as a full charge bookkeeper

My problem is that

1) I am too young to rank up as a manager (only 24), and

2) I didn’t finish the education requirement and no MBA / MS (Most firm will not take you without finish the 150 credit), and

3) I kinda specialize in non-profit / governmental, which makes it hard to transfer to public accounting

My family said I should go back to school for a master, that will give me more job opportunity to find a better job….

Anyone feel like going back to school will get you a better job? (and to find a job working under a CPA?)

Plenty of threads on here regarding difficulties finding work.

A MBA will not help you get a job. A Masters in accounting will also not help.

It WILL hurt you to not have the 150 credits, since all firms will see that you are not yet CPA license eligible, so you need to do one of these or simply take some extra classes in order to reach the education requirement.

Once you do that, it will be much easier to find a job. Most, not all, employers want someone who passed the CPA, or who they believe is smart enough to pass the CPA, and who can get licensed after a year of experience.
