MemberHi
I have recently completed my CPA and planning to study for MST. I am confused between SJSU and Golden Gate.
In SJSU I think I can enroll for Spring 13 but for GGU I have to wait till Aug 13. Is it worth waiting for GGU? Or Shall I enroll for SJSU. I am currently on H4 so one of the my motive is to get employed too. Please suggest
Thanks

University of Denver's Master of Tax program now does online classes. You watch the same lectures that people who go to class in person see. They record them all and are pretty good quality for the most part. Some classes are harder because of the way some of the adjuncts teach. Mark Vogel, the program's director is crazy smart and very knowledgable. He teaches 1/2 of the classes.

ParticipantI definitely agree with tmgolf318. I recently completed my Master of Taxation from the University of Denver. I completed the classes in person, but used the online classes to re-watch the lectures for final exams. The curriculum is very challenging and is taught by law professors that have been teaching in this program for over twenty years. DU is much more widely regarded compared with GGU. If you are expecting not to stay in California, you should look at a program that is regarded more highly nationally.
With regards to salary for a staff with a Master of Taxation compared to a staff entering with a Bachelor's degree, plan on between $2k to $5k additionally. It used to be significantly better, but the Big 4 has really tanked salaries as a whole. Buddies of mine in Denver that were entering the Big 4 in 2007 were making $56k base with a Bachelor's.

MemberI want to GGU Master in Taxation – Full time – in SFO. It is a great programme. Be prepared it is very chanllenging ( you will have no life for a year), but the faculty is amazing.

ParticipantWhoever posted those results is not actually looking at the top tax law programs. The top tax law program in the country is NYU. Seen here: https://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-law-schools/tax-law-rankings. A full listing is shown here: https://taxprof.typepad.com/taxprof_blog/2012/03/new-2013.html
Maybe that's where there is disagreement. The programs that are discussed in the link above specialize in the field of tax law. Looking at CSU Fullerton's Master of Taxation several years ago, it appeared that it didn't necessarily specialize in this area. GGU might not either. As you can see both of them are not ranked. In the Bay Area, the Big 4 and other accounting firms only have GGU and CSU East Bay to pull from.

Member@rupert: Thanks so much for the link!
Just to sidetrack a bit, does anyone here know of any masters in international taxation programs that are offered to non-law students?
CPA license in progress....
