    Hi,

I have BA in Psychology and finally fulfilled the 150 credit requirement (including the required Accounting and Business credits( to take the CPA exam. I have no experience in accounting field.

I thought my worries would be over once I am done with the credit requirement, but now, I am more worried about the career options. I am a permanent resident (can work legally in private and public sectors just not the government job) and will apply for citizenship in July of 2015 (next summer).

I live in Colorado Springs, CO.

Would it be worth getting the MBA and Ms in Accounting Dual Degree for me to qualify for the education in lieu of experience to get licensed as a CPA once I pass all 4 sections and the ethics exam? Or should I just get MBA or MS in Accounting? I believe that no matter which graduate degree I go for, there will be more internship opportunity open to current student and also believe that with the internship experience, I would have better chance of getting a job upon graduation. The college near me only offers MBA in Accounting. Would it qualify for the education in lieu of experience requirement for CPA license? If not, and if MBA in Accounting in general just does not offer much benefit in finding a job, I would need to drive for an hour to go to Denver for MBA & Master in Accounting or just one of the two graduate program.

    Please let me know.

    Thank you so much :)!

I am currently registered with DE but I will be transfering over to CO once I finish all four sections of the CPA exams.

I have read the CO requirements over and over again and they require 150 credit hrs which includes a combination of both accounting courses(24hrs) and business courses (21hrs). You will need experience, if you go with this requirement.

Education in lieu of experience also requires 150 credit hrs which includes a combination of both accounting courses(45hrs) and business courses (36hrs). You dont need a graduate degree under this requirement.

After july 2015, you will need both 150 credit hrs and experience before license can be issued.

Thank you for clarification! I guess if I decide to take graduate classes, I would need to take lots of credits and get them over with by May 2015! If I were to apply for the graduate school in my area, summer semester would be the earliest I can get in. I heard that even if you pass all 4 parts of the exam and get licensed in DE, you would still need to meet the requirement in order to get licensed in Colorado.

Do you have the experience necessary for Colorado CPA license?

“Study Monk, you can still change your mind and relocate to Sacramento to get your MSA….. Just a thought 😉 “

ha ha its an online program silly.

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

Marin seems to be in the middle of nowhere! Although, I liked Novato a lot. Did a few audits out there.

I got my bachelors in Accounting and Finance abroad so I have lots of accounting and business credits. I moved over here few years ago as an international student to pursue my MBA course. I decided to apply with CO to sit for the exams but the application was denied because my graduate school was not regionally accredited. I was accepted by DE since they recognize schools with national accreditation.

Currently, I have 136 credit hours in both accounting and business (just from my bachelor’s degree) and I’m planning to enroll in UC BERKLEY extension program right after passing all four section. It is very cost effective than the extension program offered by University of Denver. UC Berkley’s graduate certificate in accounting contain 24 credit hrs for each accounting certificate and I think this will help seal any loophole in my educational requirement if I decide to go with CO or any other state.

I work in AP for a large Telecom Firm in Denver. I don’t have the required experience and that’s why I’m trying as much as possible to go with the education route. My current job is very flexible and less demanding and I prefer it to stay like this till I finish these exams.

    Sorry for the long post.

@tough kitty Marin is the utopia of San Francisco. We have the ocean, forests, cute down town areas, and lakes and such. We also are just a 30 minute drive from the city. My girlfriend is national head of the internal audit department for Oracle;)
