I am doing some research and I plan to kick this CPA exam’s A$$!!!!! I’m PI$$ED and am ready to make mince-meat of the AICPA.

But, I was wondering if anyone has any input as far as whether or not to go for an MBA as well and maybe a DBA (Doctorate of Business Administration) after that? I don’t need additional education for the CPA, but I am wondering about these additional educational programs and whether or not they would be instrumental in getting into an executive level position quicker.

Does anyone have a DBA on here? If so, did opportunities change a lot for you once it was completed?

Jeff: I agree completely. I think most MBAs offer an ROI, most DBAs probably do not, the DBA is more about academic achievement for most

    MBA,CMA,CPA, CFF?, ABV?

Make sure to research. I'm not sure how much value an upper level degree from U of Phoenix has.

But you need to come up with a plan. FIRST decide what your ultimate career goal is, THEN find out the background/qualifications of people who hold that position-linkedin is a great resource for that. I'm trying to think of even one position where a doctorate in business admin would boost your resume and am only coming up with if you wanted to be a dean of a business admin program at a university.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

The DBA also has chops in strategic or management consulting but only if from a good business school and usually only really pays off if you are an independent

What is the difference between a DBA and a PhD. I thought the UCs offered PhDs. Or are you using the terms synonymously?

    BA Mathematics, UC Berkeley
Certificates in CPA and EA preparation, College of San Mateo
    CMA I 420, II 470
    FAR 91, AUD Feb 2015 (Gleim self-study)

Oh no. DBA is still somewhat research based but more based in practice than a PhD. I only really checked into UCI deeply but they had a DBA at one time. Don't think they still do, could be a PhD nowadays

I didn't know there was such a thing as a DBA – good to know… I'd always been under the impression that doctorate level degrees were PhD unless you were in medicine (or something like Law with the JD that my law professor insisted was the same as a PhD 😉 ). Research based PhD is of no interest to me, but if I find I have a year to spend in school and $$$$ to throw around, a DBA might almost be interesting someday. (Also a little sibling rivalry that makes me want to get to the same level as the MD in the family… 😛 )

So, I don't have much to contribute, but was glad to see this thread cause I just learned something new!
