Has anyone taken the CMA exam? How long do you have to study to be prepared? I have the next few weeks off and am scheduled to take part 1 in early January. I’m going to start studying tomorrow (I’ve been super busy up until yesterday) and have 14 days available to study until the exam. I plan on studying about 4 hours a day. I’m using Gleim, which I used for a portion of the CPA exam and thought was so-so.

I’m assuming that the study time for the CMA exam is significantly less than for the CPA, but I haven’t been able to find much online about people’s experiences with the CMA.

@PhDCPA, I took CMA exams this year and passed from first attempt. I used IMA books and Gleim MCQs software which really helped me a lot. I studied around two months for each part with around 15 to 20 hours a week. As compared to CPA, it probably needs less study time,however, my advice is never take CMA lightly! It needs a serious study and lots of practice as you may run out of time with such a lengthy questions!

I believe the CMA exams are quite similar to the CPA exam as far as study time and difficulty. The only plus would be the lack of the horrible simulations and more weight on MCQ's. I would plan on a similar approach to the CPA exam. Also, I don't believe the CMA exam is curved quite like the CPA exam which can make getting a good score a little more difficult.

On the other hand, if you have already passed the CPA exam, study time should be less due to many of the topics on the CMA exam being covered on the CPA exam. Good luck!

I'm basically taking the CMA exam just to take it since I really don't think that it is going to benefit me, so I can't really justify putting too much time into it. I figure I'll study hard for these couple weeks and see what happens.
