You guys. I have really happy news to share.

After working my @$$ off for the past 2.5 years, working full time and going to school full time, studying for the CPA exam, networking, going to endless meetings, working at ridiculously low paying jobs for “the experience”, volunteering, and going on a ton of interviews… today something awesome happened.

I GOT AN AMAZING AMAZING JOB OFFER. At my first choice firm. For twice as much money as I’ve ever made in my life. Doing exactly what I want to do (taxes!). Working for an awesome female partner who is basically the bomb dot com.

This is the moment I have been waiting for this whole time. All along when I wanted to quit, I had to keep telling myself that it would all be worth it and that I was working towards something that mattered– being able to have a better future for myself. And it happened. I literally cannot believe it.

Congrats! But just out of curiosity, would it have been bad if it were a male partner? Haha Just wondering if it's an added bonus that she's a woman or if you just hate working for men. In any case, congratulations!

@baseball — I don't mind working for men, but I am looking forward to working for her because I admire her professionally (she was the second woman in the history of the firm to make partner), and think I can learn a lot from her.

    Congrats!

I'm so glad your hard work is paying off. I hope you are proud of yourself and have a celebration with your family and/or friends.

May I ask you how you contacted this firm? Was it through school, networking, or some other way?

Now all you have left is finishing the exam. It sounds like you are moving in a great direction!

NIU CPA Review Correspondence is awesome!

I passed all four sections on the first attempt

    Thanks everyone!

@mmcgrad1 — I got the interview through on campus recruiting but also heavily networked in any way possible over the last year or so– through a professor, friends, acquaintances from church, a board I'm on, beta alpha psi, the state's CPA society, etc. You name the networking event, I did it. I worked at the VITA clinic last year with a professor who is good friends with the firm's recruiter, and the professor put in a very nice recommendation for me. I also stayed in contact with the firm's recruiter throughout the year, and every time I saw her at networking events, etc. I went and talked to her.
