Would you take an unrelated job at a top tech company?

    Hypothetical question:

If you are just finishing school and on the accounting track where you would start studying for the CPA exam + a part-time job with a cpa firm, and then start your accounting career with a full-time job a year from now…

would you ditch those plans to take a different entry level job offer at a top top company like Facebook or Google? (something like content management, writing, sales, etc. that’s not related to accounting)

I don’t think it would directly help you if you ever decided to go back to accounting because it’s unrelated experience, it might set you back. But the benefits, perks, work environment, experience might be worth trying.

What if, that job had a lower ceiling than pursuing the CPA route? Say you take a job as a writer or someone on the Operations/Support staff.. maybe making 85k or something as the highest.. would that still entice you to try it out?

If you just finished college and are in your 20s then do whatever makes you happy before real life starts at 30.
