I NEED some advice. Ok I’ve worked in AP in private for over 6 years, have a great background in that but never really got the chance to do a staff accountant role (though I was exposed to everything pretty much). It was not because I didn’t want to, it was just every company I worked for was tiny.
Okay so this time last year I was looking for a job and it took months to find one (and I only got that one because I knew someone). So after working for 8 months, I went back to get my Macc with tax concentration (which I am into 2 months). So I’m doing that, I quit my job to study for the CPA exam as well during this time. I went on an interview with a small firm I would really like to work for and got an offer (yay) the issue is: my program is a one year program, that you cannot get out of. It is very demanding and I’m not sure if I can do tax season internship (40-50hrs) and school at the same time. I’ve worked 24 hrs and went to school full time throughout undergrad but this is different. I don’t want to make a bad impression at the firm either. Out of everyone I met at the career fair, I spent the majority of my time with a select few firms. I was able to get interviews with two.. the other is hiring for Fall of next year which would be perfect but I may not get it (still interviewing)…
The gist is.. I’m scared. I’m scared if I don’t do this internship, I won’t be able to get a job in public accounting when I get out. I go to a “second rate” school. Like the major institutions, my school is like number 6.. still a good school but not the cream of the crop. I feel like having a great Masters GPA and my CPA courses completed would help my job prospects, but last year at the career fair, I felt like firms werent really considering you if you were not in school…. I would get out of my masters at the beg of aug 2014.
I have to give a decision tomorrow- any help I would appreciate so very much!
Also : I live in an hour outside of ATL, don’t know if that helps.
