Hello all, here’s the quick rundown of my situation.
-Finished undergrad May 2012, 3.2 overall, 3.4 accounting (yay drunken freshman me). Was in VITA.
-I’ve had temp staff accountant roles since then at a F500 and another public company, current one is ending shortly.
-In first semester (online) SUNY accounting masters program now to fill out CPA requirements.
-Taking first CPA exam in November.
With that said, my plan is to pass the exams, build a nice grad GPA, and go through the formal campus recruiting process fall ’14. But would it be worth it to “cold call” email firms in the region now, just to see what I can get? I will have some firms (for internships only) that I can apply to via my schools as well. Could this hurt me for next year, or does it not matter? Would doing this work better if I ask for internships or full time? Also, I’m looking to do primarily audit work, at a regional firm or larger.
I only have this thought because it’d be nice to find a firm and not have to worry about that aspect anymore. Plus I can finish my experience requirement quickly.
Thanks!
