    I’m a little put out by my employer requiring us to work Christmas eve. Is that the normal for must public accounting jobs? Especially since we have no work to do and we’ll be busting it this next month.

    @juuustin – You are leaving a government (federal?) job where you are in a more senior role for big 4? Just curious about your situation. But good call about working days like these when you're local – doing the same thing ha.

    @chiguy

    I am leaving a completely non-accounting gov't job in which seniority is measured by when you were hired. I am not above the people less senior than me in responsibility; I am simply granted leave before them because I have been here a little longer.

    Working today until about noon. Office is mostly empty, and everyone who is left is in a good mood. Getting caught up on an outstanding project, and then off til Monday.

    @dragonslayer1 My firm has paid time off for exams but it doesn't come out of our PTO or vacation. My testing center is 1 hour away from where i work. Work/Life balance is a rarity but it is possible. Smaller regional/local firms maybe not but mid sized regional firms honestly care. At least that's what i've observed in my experience.

    Everyone gets to work from home today except for me. Just my luck, right? Haha, luckily I don't have work to do so it's just study time. The firm closes at 3, though.

    I am working today but will leave a little early. They gave us the day after Christmas off and now I get a 4-day weekend. Preferable to me since I have burned through all my PTO with the CPA…well, and vacation.

    4 hours paid study time today… been slow enough that I've been getting 2-3 hours of studying in at work each day for the last two weeks 🙂 got to enjoy it now, January the work starts pouring in and the 12 hour days become the norm again.

    Getting to the office at 9:30 and leaving at 1:00 is like a day off for me. Public accounting really messes you up.
