Assuming equal pedigree, experience and value, which would you choose? What would it take for you to take the higher salary job?

I don’t have any offers but it is something that I consider. I live in NJ and have a job in my back yard. There are jobs I see coming out of NYC that may pay around 78K or more if I could get them. But NYC has added commuting costs, time costs, and city taxes. My current job is just so damn convenient, but I am also considering leaving it for big 4 opportunity assuming i could get it.

Only reason I put up with commuting 3-4 hours round trip is because all Big 4 firms are that far from my house and I'm not going to move my family without committing to Big 4 long term.

I agree with zieba….sounds like most people aren't from the NYC/tri-state area. 2 hours one way isn't too far out of the realm of possibility for many people who work in the city. For a while I worked in the city and took a 45 train ride in…but then you have to add on the 15-20 to get to the train station, then the extra 15-20 time walking from GC to the office. Usually averaged about 1:30 one way…
