Work from Home–Part time accounting work

    Does anyone know of a legitimate source of locating part time accounting or data entry jobs that I can do from home late at night? My husband is focusing on a new career and I would like to supplement my income with a job that won’t take away time from my children. I can work 20 hours per week. I’ve searched online, but it is very difficult to determine what is legit and what is a scam. Once his schedule settles down some I can look into tutoring again, which pays more than data entry, but for now I need something I can do from home after my kids go to sleep. If you know of any companies or websites I can go to, please let me know. Thank you in advance!

    Hi Mamabear,

    I like Flexjobs. There's also Odesk, but I don't know if that's nationwide.

    Good luck!

    If I could afford it, I'd hire you. I've got a backlog about a mile high which is why I'm still up at 4am and going to the office in about 15 minutes.

    Aw. Thanks Kricket! I'm sorry you're so backed up. I can only imagine how crazy it is to have your own company. I don't think I would be much help to you at this time though. I have never done a tax return, not even my own. 🙁 Tax work and setting up new companies in quick books is what I've seen the most postings for.

    @Mamabear – I don't do taxes! I don't even do my own taxes. LOL If you can set up a new company in QB and create financial statements then you shouldn't have any trouble finding some part time work.

    I thought you owned a tax company. Ha! What do you do? I know your avatar is more about drinking, but every time I see it I just associate you with tax. 🙂

    Wait just a minute, Kricket! I want to hire MamaBear. Guess we're going to have to starting a bidding war for her services 😉

    Ha ha I can assure you that I don't own a tax firm. I bought half of my bosses firm. We do mostly gov audits, financial statements, some payroll and payroll taxes and a few consolidations. My partner is the tax expert. Not this old gal! I hate taxes with every fiber of my being. I don't mind payroll taxes because they are basically easy money.

    There's also TaskRabbit, but they are having some issues with how they assign jobs.

    I can type like a beast so doing data entry or something like that would be easy for me. My old job used to have me type up documents that were only available in hard copy form. I'd get a days work done in like 3 hours, haha.

    @Kricket–Gotcha. I saw a couple of positions for payroll taxes, but have never done them. I guess I need to train myself on a few things so I can do more of these part time jobs. 🙂

    @samdiego–I haven't had much time to look into it today, but I know someone that took a job for ODesk and it worked out for her. She did warn me to make sure the company was legitimate though, so I guess they have a mixture of fake and real on there.

    @CPA50
    –Ooooh. A bidding war! Now that sounds like fun. Proceed. 😉

    Thanks to those who shared ideas in this thread. I hadn't heard of oDesk before but have been looking around it and there seem to be some postings for my specific expertise and/or interest areas, so I'm hopeful that I can get something good out of this! I've applied to a couple, will have to see how it goes… I've been looking for ways to make some extra cash on the side, and this may work out to be the perfect “moonlighting” opportunity. We're focusing on paying off debt quickly so pretty much all the regular income is budgeted out to go to these financial goals, but something like this could go into a “fun money” stash that's not budgeted, so I'm excited!

    That's great Lilla! Let me know how it goes. I haven't applied to any yet and don't know if I will since I have to retake REG now, but I would love to know if it works out for you.
