Hi all. Excellent forum here. I was reflecting on my career today and future potential job opportunities after speaking with some recruiters. It had me thinking, did I pigeon hole myself with my career so far? I have been working in individual tax for my whole career, although my new job I have some more exposure. But the way I see it, these are just some of the career options for other avenues.
Audit
-can work in public, then transition to private as a controller or CFO.
Can work way up to a partner at a CPA firm.
Can get a job at a startup or public company with stock options/equity packages.Corporate Tax
Can work for many private companies, work way up in public to partner
Tax director at private firmWhat about individual tax? I feel the options are WAY more limited in my niche. I’m worried I’m kinda just stuck at CPA firms topping out as senior manager (which isn’t the worst thing in the world) but the options seem limited compared to a more broad tax/corporate tax background or an Audit background.
Any advice on if I should continue down this road or try and diversify my background ? Thanks
