Don’t know guys but my experience so far in accounting has been wide, and really it has been difficult to find a good boss (like to search a coin in the sea!!).

Usually my bosses have been: arrogant (minimizing even the owner of companies! and employees of course), they think they know EVERYTHING, and they feel like with a “different” status.

I have dealt with other people, usually of different areas and they are completely different.

The reality is that accountants serve other people as well, they are not the owners of organizations (most of the times) to have such a bad attitude.

I don’t know, probably I don’t get along because I hate to see control over people..

Is it only me? or have you had same experiences?

    @Gatorbates

You are right! Actually now that I think about it, when you go to hospitals, to see doctors etc, you find all that sh.t together.. and about lawyers.. yes! Actually I would think twice in be involved with a lawyer hahaha..

The people I have dealt other than accountants are in the artistic and social fields.

Yeah, I think this is general..

@jgh1204, I sort of feel like IT Help Desk staffers sometimes have a right to be. I've heard horror stories of the ridiculously stupid questions that they get asked. A sarcastic individual like myself would go crazy in that sort of role.

    BEC - 90 PASSED
    FAR - 84 PASSED
    AUD - 93 PASSED
    REG - 84 PASSED

    I DID IT!!!!

The boss I have now is easily the best boss I've ever had or known. She's humble, knowledgeable, treats all of us as equals, but still gets the job done. The “higher-ups” rely on her heavily since they know that she knows her job thoroughly (and often knows theirs better than they do…but she's humble about it 😛 ), and the “underlings” like me know that she values us too. And yes, she's in accounting.

The last boss I had was easily the worst boss I've ever had. And he was in accounting, too. His deficiencies are too numerous to list. 🙂

So from my limited experience (just 2 accounting jobs), I would definitely say that accounting bosses can be awesome or terrible, depends on the person!

I would agree that it is a character flaw and a human problem. People think that because they got some title, they now have the right to kick people around – whether it's lawyer, CPA, doctor, etc., or just “manager”. But the fact is, we all put our pants on the same way, one leg and then the other…we're really not all that different. I think the lesson in all of this for us is to be careful when we get the titles that we don't let them go to our head.

    P. S. I think the worst managers are in retail. Cause in retail, to be a manager, you don't even have to know that much or be that much better – you just rolled the lucky dice…and then the managers usually act like big-shots and treat people like crap.

I have experienced only very kind, supportive and intelligent bosses to date. I'd chalk it up to bad luck so far. It has definitely not been my experience at all…

    FAR 11/2012: 80
    AUD 2/19/2013: 90
    REG 5/14/2013: 76
    BEC 11/2013: 85
    Ethics: 100
    Waiting on the packet....

I have had 2 reasonable accounting bosses and one from hell!

I have had 2 reasonable retail bosses, and 3 bad ones.

Still looking for my first great boss

I think 25 percent of the population is very flawed and this will reflect wherever you go.

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

I've never had a bad boss, maybe i've been lucky. Then again, i think it depends on where you work. All my bosses were/are CPAs, and people that already did their time at a CPA firm or working for a large corporation that didn't care about them. I'd describe them as people who were all in past situations they wanted to get away from. So when you have bosses that came from a bad experience in accounting, they're much nicer and relaxed. I've been very, very, lucky in the job department for the most part. Worst bosses i had were in retail
