Don’t know guys but my experience so far in accounting has been wide, and really it has been difficult to find a good boss (like to search a coin in the sea!!).

Usually my bosses have been: arrogant (minimizing even the owner of companies! and employees of course), they think they know EVERYTHING, and they feel like with a “different” status.

I have dealt with other people, usually of different areas and they are completely different.

The reality is that accountants serve other people as well, they are not the owners of organizations (most of the times) to have such a bad attitude.

I don’t know, probably I don’t get along because I hate to see control over people..

Is it only me? or have you had same experiences?

I worked in IT, for a while, in a Fortune 500 company, and my boss (who doesn't even have a degree), was extremely arrogant, yet all he was an expert in was MS Access. I hate to bad mouth anyone but you will find extremely cocky people everywhere. The best thing I can tell you is to act stupid, smile, make a few jokes, do your job, and eventually YOU will be the boss!

I don't think arrogant bosses are limited to the Accounting field. Why would one make a generalization like that? Arrogance and cockiness knows no specific line of work.

If you think managers in accounting are arrogant and cocky, you've obviously not had the pleasure of working with many sales managers. I agree with musicamor about not making generalizations, but sales/marketing folks are college frat kids who never grew up LOL.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

I tend to agree with the OP on this. I've only met a few genuinely humble managers in this industry. But those few humble ones tend to be the only ones who actually DO know what they're talking about, because they'll sit down and take the time to listen to the input of others.

    BEC - 90 PASSED
    FAR - 84 PASSED
    AUD - 93 PASSED
    REG - 84 PASSED

    I DID IT!!!!

Well, responding to musicamor, I don't generalize, I talk about my own experience, working in this field about 20 years now. And it has been really difficult to see exceptions to the rule.

However, I agree that there are jerks in all areas, the thing is I haven't met them!

I do what Mystical guy says: put your face of stupid, smile, do your job and that's it. 🙂

The most arrogant and condescending are IT help desk staffers.

    Reg - Passed 82 Nov 2012 - Becker
    Aud - Passed 86 May 2013 - Becker
    BEC - Passed 88 Aug 2013 - Becker
    FAR - Passed 88 Nov 2013 - Becker

In my opinion, it's a character flaw. As someone said here earlier, there are many of these arrogant people in other professions. Heart and brain surgeons have the reputation of having “God complexes”. Hig profile attorneys think they're the sh*t, since everyone sees them on TV. Same goes with CPA's too. Especially a CPA who has authority over non-CPA's. But it's my opinion that it varies from person to person … as I started out saying, it's a character flaw. Now, those with great power (the heart and brain surgeons, high profile TV atty's, high rank CPA's) that are NOT arrogant and DON'T have this character flaw, well, they are people with CLASS. That's something you can't teach, and is one of the most admirable traits.

    Licensed Florida CPA:
    B: 71, 73, 79
    A: 83
    R: 78 (expired), 77
    F: 74, 74, 80

    It's finally freaking over.
