Why in the accounting field, bosses are really arrogant and jerks?

Don’t know guys but my experience so far in accounting has been wide, and really it has been difficult to find a good boss (like to search a coin in the sea!!).

Usually my bosses have been: arrogant (minimizing even the owner of companies! and employees of course), they think they know EVERYTHING, and they feel like with a “different” status.

I have dealt with other people, usually of different areas and they are completely different.

The reality is that accountants serve other people as well, they are not the owners of organizations (most of the times) to have such a bad attitude.

I don’t know, probably I don’t get along because I hate to see control over people..

Is it only me? or have you had same experiences?

I've seen both. In my experience the bad bosses in the sense of aggressive and arrogant seem to be less educated and less intellectual. I'm thinking it's some sort of feeling of inferiority and making up with it by being a d bag

CPAhereIam, hahahah,, im not kidding. When I used to work the securities & Exchange Commission, it was even worst. All the examiners had to have a 3.50 GPA or above (only way to get a job there) and most of them were also CPA, and MBAs. So all these examiner making close to 90K or more at 26 thought they were the sh%%%. They wouldn’t say good morning to the secretaries or anyone who they thought were below them. The funny thing is that when they were trying to be nice to the enforcers (Attorneys), they would get a taste of their own medicine. I think up north things are different.

@CR7 wow!! I wonder how skilled these people are for personal relationships.. looks to me that you are talking about smart people but with zero social skills… just forget the “nice” part, at the end, their only friends are the mirrors! LOL

Oh yeah, also corporate politics allows and often encourages these types of attitudes to crop up. Suck up to people in power and be a dick to anyone with no power and step on them or push them out of the way to get to the top. Being diplomatic and civil to the people who don't matter does not help you one bit and may in fact hold you back because it is taking away time that you can be using to suck up to those in power.

Also, people in general want to associate with other people who have some sort of power, status, or something to offer them. Human nature.

I worked in IT, for a while, in a Fortune 500 company, and my boss (who doesn't even have a degree), was extremely arrogant, yet all he was an expert in was MS Access. I hate to bad mouth anyone but you will find extremely cocky people everywhere. The best thing I can tell you is to act stupid, smile, make a few jokes, do your job, and eventually YOU will be the boss!
