For me, the number one reason is because it is a personal goal. Getting the license is a very big deal for me. Secondly, I think I want to have my own accounting business one day, if I’m brave enough to do it. πŸ™‚ And last, If I stay with the big 4, I’ll need the license to be promoted to manager, which will take me about 4.5 years to get to that point.

Personal goal here too. Also, I haven't figured out a specific plan as to what I want to use it for but I just know it will help open more doors for me in the future and improve my chances of getting whereever I decide I want to take my career. πŸ™‚

I want to work with the Federal Government… I used to work with one of the agencies and it has been one of my best working experiences ever… I want to go back but as an employee not as a contractor.

A friend of mine (who never passed all 4) told me there was NO WAY I could do it while I was working full time, with 2 kids and in school half time for my masters.

    Huh. She was mistaken.

For me, it is a combination of a couple of things:

    1. Personal Goal

    2. More money, more money (well hopefully)

    3. To be more promotable/marketable for other jobs

for me it is a means to an end. a temporary end. a transition from the societal and familial influences to a life of further indecision. the questions will remain, but with less constraints. the eyes will continue watching, but their gaze will be diminished.

but really: a personal goal, a ‘catholic guilt'- free existence, a brief ego trip, a nice thing to put on a resume, a safety net

    1. Oportunities & $$$- I love the corporate environment, but with this economy I need to be able to select my opportunities if I ever get a laid off notice again. It happened to me once…My manager (+50 yrs old)could not find a job until 1 year later because he was (still) no CPA…

    2. I will love to get out of the corporate at 50 or so, probably then I will open my office “Marivy CPA” LOL

it's a fallback for me…I do need it to get promoted but that is not my primary goal. I want to take some risks while I'm young and I still can. Going to start developing my own business on the side after I pass…that's where my heart is
