What should I do?

So late last week a recruiter from a top 10 accounting firm contacted me via email about setting up a time to chat about the company and wanted me to send her my availability. When I sent my available days to talk, I never got a response. So I resent my availability and the recruiter responded to see if i can chat today. An hour before the proposed time the recruiter wanted to chat I had emailed back to say it was ok to talk today at that time. Never got a response or a phone call. I know they are busy and all but i’m not sure what to do next because i dont want to come off as a pest to the recruiter by having to email twice after every request. Help please.

Translation: you're a low priority and/or the recruiter doesn't understand what “professional” means. Probably both though.

Not trying to be negative, but that's most likely the case. Hang tight. If you have a chance you've done enough for now.

When did the recruiter propose the time to chat today? If it was last week (or even yesterday) and you didn't get back to him until an hour before, he made other plans. Meaning waiting to respond may have made him think you were not interested.

@mla1169 the recruiter initially emailed me last friday to list some availability for this upcoming week. I responded to him within an hour mind you he emailed me at 10pm at night. Then he proposes to speak at 11:30 am today and he proposed that time at 9:30am and I responded within 30 minutes of that email stating that i'm free to talk and got no answer.

In that case, I defer to Mayo's response. Onward and upward!

Lol, that happens more than it should.

You've got to understand that in-house recruiter's spend a lot of their time (over the course of a year) getting their campus recruiting efforts planned, budgeted, and executed.

Then, with free time, they spend doing other stuff like online reviews (usually Linkedin) to see if they can find candidates who may be interested, and believe me, they are messaging TONS OF PEOPLE to get a handful of responses.

Keep at it, follow up one or two more times (at least a few days apart) and see if you can make something work. If not, then maybe it wasn't meant to be… 🙁

I will say that you could just connect with several recruiters from that firm and whichever one accepts and responds to your message first, you can get in that way too.

If you're actually looking for a new job (not just planning to talk to the recruiter to see what they had to say) – then look for a new recruiter. The one that got me my new job had contacted me about a few job opportunities. None were in the geographical area I was looking to be in, but he kept me in mind and got in touch a week later when some in my area became available. He was very quick to respond, even on weekends. He quickly made it obvious that he was there to help me find a new job, and I was happy for his help.

If you have a recruiter that's not responding to you, it's time to look for another one.
