Just curious … if this is all worth it!

What is the highest CPA’s salary that you know of?

What does the highest-earning CPA you know of earn, per year?

I am not talking about a CPA that ends up doing something other than CPA career stuff…

    Thanks!

I had never heard of Chief Accounting Office (CAO) until literally just now when my recruiter called me wanting to place me in a senior corporate accounting position with opportunity for growth to CAO within 7-10 years. I thought controller was highest and then VPs or Directors and then CFO above them. Of course I had to run over here and search the threads for CAO lol. Interesting.

“. It's not my interviewing skills either because I have had stellar reviews from all my previous jobs in and out of the industry….it is the fact that I don't have big four experience or have done closing entries in any computerized system that is hurting me – in my opinion.”

maybe its how humble you are??? (sarcasm)….i would stop blaming your lack of big 4 exp. i started out of school in industry (so no big 4 exp) at 51k

I am a solo practitioner of an accounting and bookkeeping business(no tax) and I am currently bringing in close to $60K without a CPA license. Geez, I get excited to think what I would make when I get my license. I do work about 50+ hours per week for that revenue though. I don't have an assistant and I don't want one right now. I did have one but I hate training people, I really do.

In the central Florida area, a CPA with 5 years experience can make about $70K per year. This is based on the jobs Robert Half is currently advertising. I've seen jobs advertised recently by them looking for a Controller with 10+ years experience and CPA with a salary starting at $90K to $120K. I wonder if those figures include perks?

I think it really depends on where you live. When I was in houston I was at upper 60's and lower 70's. Living cost is lower so that I believe is decent income.

When I moved to California – Silicon valley the salary here is higher but at the same time living cost is higher too esp. if you want to buy a house. So now my salary is at the 90's level. I know a lot of CPA's in industry that are either upper 80's or upper 90's depending on experience, size of the company etc.

Oh by the way this is based on Senior Accountants salary range in the Bay area. I think controllers are close to 150K plus. CFO's depending on the size of the company are above 200K.

Just because we earn more doesn't mean we have more savings. It just allows us to be able to live in this crazy housing market.

My friend I worked with at PwC did transaction services for 3 years, got his MBA, then leveraged his way into a large private equity firm, 310K starting. But it's a high COL city and 300k at a private equity firm is surprisingly entry level

CPAs that lateral into MBA -> PE, investment banking, etc. blow big 4 partner salaries out of the water

    FAR - 90
    AUD - 98
    REG - 87
    BEC - 85
