I’m back in the job market, and I have a few interviews lined up, but I was wondering how much people are paying now for healthcare for a family of 3. I’m currently paying $200 a month for health, dental and vision for my wife and I, but I currently have a government job. Also my wife is pregnant with our first child, and we will need benefits for him. One of the jobs I am interviewing for, will give me about a $7,000 wage increase from my current job, but the cost for benefits for my wife and our son (after he’s born in September) will be around $610 a month.

I’m just wondering if that’s a good amount to pay, or if I will be getting ripped off. I do understand that healthcare is at an all time high in America, and just having benefits for your family is definitely a blessing.

    Any feedback is definitely appreciated.

Wait until ObamaCare kicks in and $610 will be considered dirt cheap!

I pay $365 for my spouse and I from Medica through the individual market. The reason I HATE going thru the Blues is because they have 3 choices – single, single w/dependent and family. For my spouse and I, it was always “family” even though there are no children involved. The cost for a family tends to run about $1000, give or take. Through Medica, it would be myself, my spouse, and individually for up to three children. After 3, there is no additional cost.

Again, it will be very interesting to see what ObamaCare is going to do to our costs.

I have a low deductible plan Blue Cross through my employer and for myself it's about $60/month. If I was to add my husband and a child it would be about $200-$250/month. $600 seems really high.

At my last job (a small firm total about 150 people), really good health insurance coverage, I paid about $610 a month (dental vision and health) for a family of 3. I recently started at a big pharmaceutical company and I am paying about $350 a month for the same coverage. Hope this will help.
