I am still in college but I was wondering what was your first day like at work?

I am worried that I will be asked to do something but won’t be able to recall how to do. Or even have no clue how to do.

    Thank You

@naz … to be honest I think it all depends where you accept a position for accounting – what kind of firm. I started with a smaller firm and they were all super helpful so if you didn't know something there was someone willing to help you out.

My first day at the public accounting firm I used to work at was a bit insane. I was sent out to do a single audit of a major road construction project alone. I was given a compliance supplement and directions to the location. 🙂

I'm Big 4 and I sat in the office doing trainings and getting my picture taken for my badge. Although we started on a Friday and were sent to a National Training for the following 2 weeks so they didn't want us at client sites for 1 day before disappearing for 2 weeks.

At my Big 4, the entire day was orientation day. Actually, I think my initial orientation took 2 days. Lots of HR administration, introductions to your new peers and colleagues, ice breaker exercises, training seminars, etc. They issue you your ID badges, laptops, work assignments/schedules, show you around the office, etc. Training for the orientation days is non-technical and pretty much consists of admin type things like how to fill out forms for scheduling requests, ordering supplies, expense reimbursement, time sheets, company credit card, and the like. Then they help you make preparations (travel/lodging) for national training. National training is when you get technical training. Anyway, it's a pretty chill and fun day. And they give you answers to all the stuff you're wondering about right now.

Just make sure you show up to that first day!
