    Hello Fellas!

I ll be start my new job in Dec, and I hope someone can share some ideas of how a tax position be like in a mid-size firm. I previously have worked in a very very small accounting firm. I was a junior before, but now I will start as a tax staff for this new firm, even though I’m a CPA now

    Please share your thoughts!

    Greatly Appreciated!

You know what, it depends on what time of year it is! Now it's kind of slow. We have some projections to do but not much else and projections are everyone's least favorite part of the job.

But when tax season kicks in and as the deadlines get closer, it's crazy, with constant interruptions, exhausting hours and a lot of pressure. I think most people who make a career in tax will say they work better under pressure and like it, to some extent. I know I do. I get very tired but still seem to respond to the pressure.

I think you can expect things to be kind of slow for your first few months. You can use the time to review the files of whatever clients you'll be working on. Go through their files, maybe set up the 2013 files, see what information is typically requested from the clients. Most firms (including mine) send out tax organizers but hardly anyone fills them out so you have to be able to come up with your open “open items” lists. See what was done last year and use that as a guide.

    Best of luck to you!
