So, I passed the CPA exam. Ready to move on to a better job. However, what if I’m not as smart as I think I am? My first job was at a public accounting firm and and it was over my head. I don’t want to get into the same situation again.

I want to challenge myself, but not take on something I am not ready for.

What if I’m not good enough? Anyone have similar thought patterns?

Rocky123, I know exactly what you are talking about. The good news that if you are feeling this way than you are most likely a modest, conscientious person which can go a long way towards your success.

I got a little story that can show you that we are more capable than we give ourselves credit for:

So I was hired by a public accounting firm 5 months ago. As part of the screening process I was given a written exam to test my accounting skills. I was completely shocked that I had to take this test and It was unbelievably hard. I was sweating bullets the whole time and when I finished I actually said “sorry” to the manager who I handed the test back to. Well I ended up getting hired, but I figured that I did terrible on the test but they still liked me so I got hired anyways…..

Flash forward to today, when I was the staff member interviewing a potential candidate. He ends up being given this written exam and afterwards I am speaking to my manager and she let's me know that I had one of the top 2 highest scores in the history of the company!!!

This just goes to prove that we are a lot more capable than we give ourselves credit for, and I think it is a good trait that you are not overconfident but rather modest or even unsure of yourself. Just go after it and stay humble my friend!

How many hours should I be studying for REG? (just curious)… I know it depends on the person and study methods, but was I was curious what others are spending…
