In your accounting career, what are some of the biggest challenges you are facing? Is it an issue with your clients? Company culture? Software? Maybe we can work out some of these.

In my case, I work at a medium sized public firm as a staff accountant. One of the problems I am working on is communicating more clearly to my supervisors. I think I have issues verbalizing my questions, suggestions, and concerns. I think that this has improved over the last couple of tax seasons, but I still see room for improvement.

Please be as specific as possible! I’m interested to hear what you guys have to say and also suggestions for me.

@ground12 I would consider not tackling that issue alone. There is certainly some CPE available (not sure if she is a CPE) that is for developing business communication skills. Have you thought about discussing with your supervisor and making an action plan?

I completely understand you don't want to embarrass or upset your subordinate. In the long run informing her of weaknesses and ways to improve will only help her continue to develop!

According to the original question, one of the the things I am struggling with is re-entering the job market. I have had my own business for 17 years, (mostly tax and small business) the industry has changed so much until am losing instead of profiting. I have 3 children in college and soon to be four, so I need more money. I love what I do but it has been hard going it alone.
