Hey guys,
I posted here not too long ago about disappointment another accountant being promoted to senior over me at my mid-sized company….even after I got my CPA license while the other stopped pursuing it. It made me wonder if I should go somewhere that values the CPA more.
So, I got a call from a recruiter who said a huge F500 company’s HR department called him saying they are looking for a senior, and that he wants to put my name in the hat. You all are familiar with this company, but I don’t want to give too much info over the Internet. This senior would supervise a team of staff and review their work….similar to Big 4 audit. At my current company, seniors do not supervise anyone….it’s more of a title change.
However, at my company, I am given pretty much full responsibility of an entity’s accounting functions (owned by the company), keep in contact with the entity’s clients, produce full GAAP financials, budgets, record cash receipts on the A/R ledger, approve A/P coding, etc. At the F500 company, this position is in their division that requires knowledge of a particular area of accounting used in my company…..but the whole position focuses on that one area. Sure, they review P&L statements, etc, but no more hands-on with entity-level GAAP financials.
So, I am wondering, is this job really an upgrade on my resume? Does it look bad to leave my mid-sized company after 2 years for such a position? Of course, I may not get the job (or an interview) anyway, so the whole thing may be irrelevant. But, I just want to be thinking about it in advance.
Thanks!
