I’m a college grad and recently applied for a Corporate Accounting internship position with a pretty big hospitality/real estate/entertainment company. They just called me to ask about my availability. If I get an interview, how should I address that I want to get paid since I can’t get a course credit, without sounding direct and rude(?)?

For position types, it listed both “Paid” and “Unpaid” internships, but for salary type, it says “Unpaid.” I need to ask them about this, but just wondering- would you guys do an unpaid internships for experience?

No, not even in a bad economy. I said this on your previous thread. Unpaid internships are for Art, Theatre, or Geography majors. Us Accountants are superior.

Haha thank you, jenuno! I'm just eager to set my foot in the door as I don't have any prior experience. I'm trying to ask my accounting certificate program if they will accept the course credits – otherwise, I don't think I'm going to take it, either. :/

Or you could say you can't afford to spend an entire summer working and not get paid for it

There are so many paid internships in audit and accounting out there, why settle for an unpaid one? Aside from the lost income, you are more limited in an unpaid internship. Legally the employer is not able to utilize you as much as you could be in a paid internship. As a paid intern, I basically got to do a lot of the same work as a first-year auditor. More valuable experience.
