What are typical entry-level positions in private? I am aware A/P and A/R are typical entry-level positions, but what else? Accounting clerk? Staff accountant position where your work is reviewed by a superior? Thanks.

Thanks for the info. Perhaps taking the 3 extra credits at school and then taking FAR in july after graduation would be better than taking part 1 of the CMA first

Well thanks everyone. I have more or less made a decision on my approach at this point. If anyone has input of value that would be appreciated.

    – Because of the fact that there is no guarantee of an entry-level construction accountant position being open, I am going to put all my eggs into doing the best I can in school and in trying to get a job with a small firm in town. They told me to contact them around May.

    – Take an extra class next semester to meet the 150 credit requirement and take FAR in July. Hopefully pass. If I don't have an accounting related job at that point, hopefully passing will help with the search. Thanks.

I started in a tax department for a company that ended up going public. I had zero experience and had just graduated. I got a ton of great experience because we were such a small department. I learned sales/use tax, property tax, income tax provisions and return prep, business licenses, etc. I stayed for 7 years and tax is where I have stayed.

    AUD - 88
    REG - 86
    BEC - 74, 1/2015
    FAR - 2/2015
