Anyone put there 2 weeks in and basically just sit there and stare because nobody wanted to give you work?

I gave my 2 weeks notice and the employer says I longer can work for him. He says I can't finish up my last 2 weeks. Is that even legal?

I am using Becker self study, ninja blitz and Wiley (I am using the paperback version of the testbank)

    Brief overview of study method:
    1. Skim through chapter quickly
    2. Watch lecture videos
    3. Take a lot of notes on what the lecturers emphasize
    4. Complete half HW after lectures half after rewriting notes

Yea always be prepared for them to tell you to take a hike immediately after giving them notice. Did they escort you out of the building?

@herbieherb Nope. I was sent a text message which said not to come to work the next day. They did not specify a reason. The manager congratulated me on my new position and stated that the owner does not want me to finish up my last 2 weeks.

    @topsya thanks for your response.

I'm a bit paranoid as I received an offer over the phone but did not receive an official offer in the mail yet. I received a phone offer last Friday so hopefully my written offer should be here by Friday of this week.

Do you guys think I should worried?

@CPANOVICE maybe you should call your new place and ask when you should expect the written offer?

    It's ok to ask…. πŸ™‚

Some places will ask you to not come back because they figure you probably wont be very productive during those 2 weeks. It just depends. My old job in audit used to tell you not to bother coming back after you put in your notice.

I would be more cautious of giving notice before actually signing an offer letter. I interviewed with Deloitte a few years back and they offered me a job but because of the economy they had a hiring freeze. Luckily I had not put in my two weeks notice so I still had a job. Just be more weary of jumping the gun. I am sure you will get your official offer letter soon.

@herbieherb thanks for the information. This is my first job in the accounting field so did not really know what to expect. They did give me a start date which is later this month. Hopefully, offer letter should be here soon. Friday will be a week since my phone offer.

The written offer can come sooner or later if its contingent on a background check. I received my written offer a month after the verbal offer was communicated, this was due to background check pending. I guess its because Verizon( current employer ) is a huge company and there's a tendency to slow down the process.

If your prospective employer is a small firm, then you should be expecting a written offer anytime soon

I took the plunge last 9/22, oh well that's when I started my new job. I turned in my 2-week notice in 9/9. I was overly excited to finally hold a full-pledged role in accounting. This is almost a perfect job for me for now except that my CPA boss is on a power trip most of the time. Working in such a very small firm where I am now feels like I work in a tank as a codfish under the supervision of a catfish:(

But no worries for me. Que sera, sera!

I will just do my best and work harder every day.

My employer requires 4 weeks notice (otherwise they wont pay out your accrued vacation time). And i've given four weeks, but i'm DYING of boredom! What is the logic here, why do I need to be here? Clearly i'm moving on to bigger and better things, why hold me back…..for no reason? What a waste of company money! Just sit here and look pretty so we can pay you an extra 2 weeks AND so we can pay you out all your accrued vacation time. While we're at it, you can accrue an additional 2 days of vacation. Zero logic!

@ Lari Sa, I'm pretty sure it's federal law that accrued vacation time be paid out regardless of the amount of notice given.
