One is at a very small CPA firm. Offering a low salary ($40K is top of hire range.) However, it is an audit position (mostly non-profits) and there is room for growth. Assume major hours during tax season, and there is some travel. Seems VERY formal so far. All contact has been through business letter attached to emails (as in formal letters on letterhead scanned in.) I am not a very formal person, and I don’t own a suit.
Second one is for a tech company seeking a Lead Accountant. Answers to CFO (who is a CPA.) About 80% of job is doing what I already have experience in, with the other 20% being special projects. Company is moving from small start-up (basic bookkeeping/accounting) to implementing GAAP. Pays better than CPA firm, and has room for growth as company grows. Best part? Informal atmosphere. No dress code. Flexible hours. Expects 40 hours a week, with any time over that given comp time.
I want the second job. Their concern is that I am overqualified. I have to convince them that it doesn’t matter. I don’t need a demanding job right now while studying for the exam. I need flexible hours to accommodate my other responsibilities and interests. I am not a formal person.
Just rambling really. Nervous about interviews, and hoping to be working in the next week or two.
