Top Ten office visit question

    Hi guys,

I have a final round office visit & interview with a top ten firm next week for an entry-level tax position.

So my question is: does the office visit consist of purely conversational/behavioral based questions (as with on-campus interviews), or are technical questions thrown in the mix? I ask because I took tax a couple of years ago and I’m afraid I won’t be prepared to answer technical questions because the material is no longer fresh in my head.

I would greatly appreciate your input and any other additional information you can provide. Thanks!

Might not hurt to skim your old tax notes, but generally speaking entry level positions are non-technical interviews.

Nah man. Most office interviews for entry level are more about “do you fit with our culture” meaning are you cool to work with when it's 2 am and we've been doing tax returns for 16 straight hours. You will learn the techinical aspect on the job.

i had an office interview with midsize firm within those top 10 companies tho..and i got the job. i had 4 people interviewed me. HR interview was those typical behavioral questions that you can find in Google. she actually told me in the beginning that her interview style is to ask behavioral questions and how would i deal it using examples from my previous jobs or anything thats on my resume. the 2nd person is senior associate, she spent most of her time talking about her experience and then i was able to ask questions based on her experiences. then, 3rd person was a senior manager and she talks alot as well and ask about my expectations and i told her my concerns, conversational i guess. lastly, a parnter interviewed me and he only asked me one question about my high GPA. the 1st three interviewers, i talked to each of them more 30 mins and with a partner maybe 10 min. dont worry thats normal, my friend worked at another midsize told me the last person he interviewed was with a partner and all he did was tell the partner his name and shake the partners hands because he told me partners are busy people. he got the job as well. hope this helps!

I had two interviews. The first was a 30-minute interview with one of the partners. There were a couple of behavorial questions here and there, but we spent a lot of the time talking about the firm, its values, her career path, etc. The second was a 30-minute interview with a senior manager, but it was super informal. I don't even remember what we talked about. No behavorial questions. It was way more casual than I thought it would be.

I was never asked any technical questions about tax or, well, even accounting in general.

Anyway, after that, we all went on a tour of the office. There was also a short presentation about the firm, some of the CPA benefits and policies — lots of general stuff, really — and then we all got free lunch at a steakhouse with some of the senior staff and managers.

During my office interviews I would always ask the interviewers what committees they are on because they probably enjoy talking about that stuff since it is voluntary.
