The overall process of being hired by a Big Four Firm

I am 2nd semester undergraduate junior and I plan to become a CPA. I hope to work at a Big 4 firm. However, I am completely oblivious to the entire process of accomplishing this goal.

I am a roughly 90 credit transfer from a sub-par university where working at/applying to large public accounting firms was never discussed because frankly it was unrealistic picture for the majority of students. At my current university, the students are much more studious as well as professional and the quality of education is significantly better. Also, I have seen booths for PwC and KPMG set up so I assume these firms actually recruit here.

Anyways can someone please explain the general process of what I should be doing and when. For example should I be applying for internships at these firms ASAP?

    Thanks
