I have always heard this but don’t know if it true for sure. Considering both candidates to be equal in terms of certifications, does an entry level audit staff make less than an entry level tax staff?

I think it is true. I've heard for example that Big 4 in NYC start Audit at $57K and Tax at $59K

    REG- 2/12 - 90 | AUD- 4/12 - 94 | BEC- 5/12- 85 | FAR- 8/12 - 82
DONE!!! I used Becker Self Study & Ninja Notes/Audio

Last year, when I failed AUD….there was a theory that people with two research questions passed while people with only one failed. I was the latter one:( Almost everyone who posted about their passing scores had two research questions…however, posts on this thread shows otherwise.

Point is, don't believe in any of that:) I hope you pass!!

I heard tax staff gets paid more initially, but then it levels out around senior level.

Audit engagements are usually more lucrative than tax preparation, and an auditor can do more work throughout the year, while tax preparers bottleneck in the busy season, but firms realize that audit sets up employees for careers in accounting more than tax, so they get a discount in that respect. But usually audit is slightly higher. But it's a bell curve, not a pure slotted system.
