Switch from public to private

I’ve been working at a public firm for about 7 years. (about 75% tax work, 25% review/audit work)

I’m curious what my marketability to a large publicly traded company is. (i’m in the SF bay area) I would believe i qualify for a senior position or accounting manager as i currently have supervisor responsiblities.

Anyone made the move from public to private? Thoughts?

Looks like you would have a very strong resume. Do you have any specific industries which you focus on?

I think it would be more beneficial to have a 75% focus on audit, as opposed to tax, if you would be interested in a controller position of a CFO.

The one thing I think people overlook in their switch to private is the type of coworkers they will work with. CPA firms tout some progressive and ambitious individuals. I can't say the same for the private industry; most come to work, do the bare minimum not to get fired, collect their paycheck and go home. Something to consider. Of course, there are always exceptions to my observation.

    Good luck!

The main focus of our firm is construction and real estate. I also spent about 3 months at an HVAC client running most everything after they discovered their bookkeeper was stealing.

I'm a little confused as to the question? You ask about your marketability to a large publically traded company is, then ask if anyone has made the move from Public to Private. Are you debating moving from a small public firm to a larger public firm, or from a smaller public firm to a private firm?

I work for a small, private company. By “private” I mean not publically traded. I am debating on switching to a public money for the oppurtunity of more growth, management positions, and higher income. Some private co.s don't have the funds for higher salaries nor the room for growth or increased responsibilities.

I currently work for a small firm in the public accounting field. I'm thinking of moving to a publicly traded company (Google, e-bay, etc)
