Well it’s busy season again! Curious because we have so many people on here who are working or have worked in public accounting, if you left can you answer the following questions:

    1. What size firm were you at?
    2. How long did you stay?
    3. Did you leave for public or private?
    4. What type of position did you get?
    5. Did you get an increase in salary? (How much)
    6. Do you feel it was a good time to leave, or do you regret it? What was the thing that made you leave?
    7. How are you doing now?

    1. What size firm were you at?
    Micro – owner, myself, and 1 part-time student/employee

    2. How long did you stay?
    1 year

    3. Did you leave for public or private?
    Private

    4. What type of position did you get?
Officially accounting clerk is a ~14,000 employee international business; actually was creating reports for the Board etc., so “clerk” that's not quite “clerk” lol

    5. Did you get an increase in salary? (How much)
    Yes – approx 50%

    6. Do you feel it was a good time to leave, or do you regret it? What was the thing that made you leave?
Absolutely was a good time to leave. The pay was ridiculously low and the owner switched from being nice to a jerk and started lying etc., so it was time to go (remember, full-time employees was just me and owner, so owner problems had a very direct impact on my day-to-day)

    7. How are you doing now?
Now Controller at a small college, started at the ripe ol' age of 24. I know my career experiences so far wouldn't get me a top-dog job at a F500, but I have no interest in that, so I love where I've gotten so far.
