I had a meeting with a partner. It was unusual meeting because I know already him and his team. So I had a meeting before I submitted my resume. He said that the firm definitely would bring me in. He already talked to other partners and they were ok with that. I told him that I would not start until end of this year and he was fine with that, also told me to submit my resume and he would have HR call me. It sounds promising to me but I’m still paranoid unless I got an offer on the table. I have not heard back from HR. Would they change their mind and I would never hear back from this firm?

This is the only interview I have hope on. If it did not go as it sounds, I’m f…because my current boss is looking for my replacement already.

Is is contract related to your current job the reason you told the partner you could not start until the end of the year? .. End of the year is a few months away so if the firm is looking for positions right now you probably won't hear from HR until closer to your start and without any offer they have no obligation.

kfalicity; not contract related, I feel bad leaving my job so I told my boss that I would stay until they find a new hire which I figured would take a couple months. Then I will travel back to my country for a month and have a month off to study. I told the partner my plan and he was fine with that. He said they would be looking for a couple new people in fall and I reached out to him in a perfect time. You're right they have no obligation. That makes me paranoid.
