Hi,

I currently reside in Massachusetts. I was about to be an accounting major in my undergrad but chose economics instead. I am going to graduate this spring but I just took this accounting course and I really wish I majored in accounting instead. I was advised by accounting professors at my school to get and MS in accounting and that I would still be able to sit for the exam eventually. Does anyone know anything about SNHU’s MS in accounting and if it will still help me even though it is not AACSB. I am also going to apply to UMass Boston’s ms program.

I just finished my MS in accounting at SNHU (about a month ago! woohoo!) and they accepted my credits to sit for the CPA even without the AACSB.

I just mailed off my transcripts for the AECR and I'll keep you posted but I am confident I will be getting my license soon 🙂

YAY Congratulations!!! I really wanna be a CPA. Were you licensed for MA NH or another state? Also how did you get your first accounting job?

I am not quite licensed yet (application being filled out now) but I live in MA and will be licensed in MA. I am older, started doing collections for Sears back in 1992-ish. Got a few different collections jobs, then tried other accounting type stuff at one job, started my bachelors in '03, started my MS in '08 so its a bit different for me.

The SNHU MS in Accounting will allow you to sit for the CPA exam even if you've never taken an accounting class before. MA and NH will accept the credits so nothing to worry about there. Also SNHU is a borderline paper (degree) mill so it's stupidly easy to get into (No GMAT) and easy to walk out of with a high GPA and little effort (I got my undergrad at UMass Amherst and that was WAY harder). The tuition is also cheap and you can take all the classes online if you want…

I went there so that was my take on it… Wasn't my first choice but money was a factor and at the end of the day all that really matters are those three letters after your name.

Just to play Devil's Advocate you might want to consider the difference in education quality before you attend somewhere just to get an MS. Without an undergrad in accounting and only a MS from an easier program you might have a much harder time on the CPA exam than you would have had with a more challenging and diligent degree. I went to BC for undergrad and I know a huge reason that I passed all four sections within eight months of graduation was because of how good their accounting department was. I don't know much about either program and I'm not trying to judge or trash either one but it's worth considering.
