Small office acceptable bonus range?

    Im working in a small 3 person office in a rural area. I’m being paid hourly, but there’s talk of adding bonuses for performance.

    What would be an acceptable bonus for a staff accountant? How’s a bonus typically setup?

    Also, what should a typical raise per hour be?

    Are the bonuses based off your individual performance or off the company's performance?

    Honestly, as a staff accountant I'd say any bonus is unusual especially if it's based on the company's performance. Based on your performance would make a little more sense to me, but I wouldn't expect it be much- maybe $1k – $2k in total per year.

    Your bonus and raise situation is specific to your firm and your geographic location.

    (i.e. – If a person is working at a Big 4, they can compare their bonus or raise to a person from another Big 4 or mid size firm, but it's very difficult to find a comp for a 3 person firm)

    Typically, the partner or partners at your firm will set aside a portion of year's earnings for bonus pool. then based on certain metrics (seniority, performance, billings, etc), that pool will be carved up between the employees.

    For raise, it will be specific to geographic location due to factors like standard of living. But for a 3 person firm, i would assume that it would be very subjective and difficult to get the market raise/compensation.

    I wouldn't expect much. I've heard that many Big 4 Associates don't get any bonuses.

    I wouldn't expect a bonus to show up as an hourly increase. It's normally a single or installment payout.
