Should I switch jobs?

    Hello everyone,

I’m trying to decide whether to stay at my current job or not. I work as a property accountant in a REIT. I have a long commute every morning and the culture is exhausting. There is absolutely no job security since the company is constantly restructuring. I have passed 3/4 sections of the exam and will begin a Master in Accounting with a Concentration in Forensic Accounting in January 2013. I want to be an auditor for a few years than become a forensic accountant. I went to interview at another real estate investment company last Wednesday. I would have more responsibilities in that position and I would be much closer to my house. At first glance, the culture of the company seems much better than where I currently work.

Should I make the move if I am offered a position? Would it hurt my resume and make me look flaky? I just don’t know how much more of my job I can take. I don’t think I would be offered a position in a public company until I am done with the masters program, which is 2 years long. I have been with my current company for a little more than a year and a half. I’ve tried to reach out to public firms but they have not responded.

Any advice would really help. Thanks everyone!

In my opinion, I would wait until you get your license to move companies. You are so close and once you have that piece of paper you will be able to possibly demand more money depending on the position you would like to go for. On another note, I think that REIT's are so dependent on Bernanke buying the MBS that no position is safe in that industry. Just my unqualified opinion though. Good Luck to you.
