I have been in Corporate Audit for a little over two years, and have passed the CPA exam too. But i feel a greater desire to work tax in public accounting, preferably wealth management tax planning type work.

The problem being that i dont have tax experience, other than working a tax job for 4 months after grad school, and volunteering to do taxes for low income individuals the past several years. And the only jobs available are PCS Senior positions, looking for 3 yrs of individual tax planning experience.

Is it realistic that i can get into public (big4 or not) with less than working year of formal tax experience, or should i just chalk it up as a loss and stay where im at? I have a masters in accounting, making 50k+.

I would say you're in a good position to make change. With your Master's and CPA, I do not think you would take a pay cut. I would see about reaching out to a local, regional firm about any prospective job opportunities.

Wow, with a Master's and a CPA you're making $50k? What city are you in? I think you would definitely be a prime candidate for a tax staff position at a Big4. The starting salaries are around $55K here in DC. A friend was hired at Deloitte straight out of school with a CPA and she got $65K starting.

A masters and a cpa…you should be able to make it happen. I agree with the low pay though. You're making slightly more than me and I'm in a government job where salareis have been frozen for 5 years.
