    Hey everyone,

I had posted here in the past with my struggles at passing my exams. It took me a ridiculously 10 tries total to passed everything over the course of 1.5 years. It was thanks to everyone’s encouragement here that I finally got through it. With that being over, I thought my problems were gone… but I was wrong. I am now struggling with my jobs. I got laid off twice. Once with a big four (tax) and once with a local firm (audit). I realized that I totally sucked with accounting. I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it either. I double checked, triple checked, quad-triple checked my work, but I still get things wrong. What’s messed up was that I got laid off by my second job one month before I can meet my work experience to apply for the CPA license. I am in a position that I am afraid to apply for another accounting job. I really don’t know what to do at this very moment. I am currently living with my gf and we are both unemployed, so finding a job is critical. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Roach – damn, I didn't know entry position for private firms starts that low! Its so weird, because as more experience I get, the lower my salary is going! From big 4 to local to private…=(. Anyways, the position that I want to apply is not Square-Enix. Sorry, but I want to keep the company anonymous for now. Well, wish you best of luck with your exams and getting in!

So Lost, the knowledge you've gained doing your accounting coursework and CPA are not wasted. I've met individuals who have gotten their CPA license to open doors, and lead them to other careers. 🙂

@SoLost, whatever your situation is… you're not considered entry-level imo. You should have enough experience to be asking for an hourly rate of $20+. Btw, I'm considered entry level right now and I don't make $15… I make a little more. I work in corporate accounting.

Also, if you do go into private industries you should consider taking classes on quickbooks/GL accounting. Knowing how to manipulate GL accounting systems is super important. I think in private industries hand-holding isn't as frown upon than public accounting. Shoot I'm a big dummy at my work place and I got everyone helping me out… I just try my best and stay charming to not annoy too many people.

    Goodluck to you too bro.

If not accounting, what about financial analysis? I see a lot of financial analyst jobs ask for a CPA.

You do realize there is an in between of public accounting to not doing accounting at all. Sounds like you should have moved to the state, corporate accoutning, NFP, or internal auditing years ago. Yeah they get paid less but they have more time off so they're the smart ones.
