    Hey everyone,

I had posted here in the past with my struggles at passing my exams. It took me a ridiculously 10 tries total to passed everything over the course of 1.5 years. It was thanks to everyone’s encouragement here that I finally got through it. With that being over, I thought my problems were gone… but I was wrong. I am now struggling with my jobs. I got laid off twice. Once with a big four (tax) and once with a local firm (audit). I realized that I totally sucked with accounting. I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it either. I double checked, triple checked, quad-triple checked my work, but I still get things wrong. What’s messed up was that I got laid off by my second job one month before I can meet my work experience to apply for the CPA license. I am in a position that I am afraid to apply for another accounting job. I really don’t know what to do at this very moment. I am currently living with my gf and we are both unemployed, so finding a job is critical. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Thanks for the replies everyone. Really appreciate it.

Kasia – I have not considered bookkeeping because it doesn't fulfill the work experience criteria. However, I do agree that this will contribution to the foundation of accounting. I also have considered other fields that uses accounting too, but the job market currently just doesn't allows it.

Sorry, I have been out of this forum for awhile, but who is this so called drama ninja? =P

mla1169 – I was let go because I wasn't improving fast enough. It's weird because when I am doing accounting work, it's like my brain isn't working at all. Its hard to explain, but it feels like I cannot think out of the box. Whenever a task is given, I just do it. When stuff looks weird, I don't catch it. Its like I have no professional skepticism at all. This might comes with experiences, but even the most basic stuffs I missed. It is so frustrating for me and my in charge. So in the end, I think this is more of a personality problem? If I get desperate for a job enough, I will try again for a public position. I still have my last strike right? =/

Tux – I do agree. This CPA license was everything that I had ever studied for. This is a life achievement. As for the work experience, I will have to check with my state board to see if it qualifies. I am not really religious, but I will most certainly pray in time of need. Good luck with your exams!

Drama Ninja had me worried for a second – I actually had to go back and reread my post 2x to see if I had any “Mini-esque” commentary there! (Mini, you know I'm a fan, so that's in no way an insult, you just have a style lol)

SoLost, I totally understand the requirement concern on your part. It's a real pisser that you were only one month away from getting the required experience. I'm going to send you some good joojoo to help in the job hunt. 🙂 Hang in there, things will turn around for you eventually just don't let this downer keep you down – you're better than that.

Does this whole DRAMA NINJA thing mean that A71 is now censored?

@jenuno Censored isn't the right word–A71 has always been monitored however, like most good forums.

@SoLost There are opportunities abound if you keep putting yourself out there. It took me nearly 6 months until I was able to land several interviews [within the same two weeks] and a job offer. I was asking myself the same thing you are after a while but I can't even imagine what it'd be like if I were a marketing, int'l business, etc. major. Yikes. You have so many things going for you right now and it seems that those firms value deadlines higher than quality. Deadlines are important nevertheless so you ought to take a cold hard look into how you can balance it out.

No – not at all. When perfectly good posters take their proverbial ball and go home however – it means the tone of the site has shifted.

I just saw the Japanese film “Battle Royale” which people compare to the Hunger Games and some threads remind me of it.

(I wasn't a fan of the movie, btw…kind of boring.)

Monitored to prevent CPA exam disclosures which I am absolutely for… but yeah, it's basically censored now due to overly sensitive people. I now feel hesitant to express my true opinions. Anyway, I'll shut up now and go walk my dog Porkchop.

SoLost, go the private route. I work at a corporate company. It's a chill job… w/ benefits and a chill boss. Pay sucks and I got lots to do but whatevers. I make a lot of mistakes… I'm still making mistakes but I'm a real charming dude so my boss loves me. I miss deadlines all the time… management gets mad and ask when I'll be able to meet my goals… 2 weeks later I'm still not done lol… my accounting supervisor defends me. Anyway, what I'm saying is there is a bunch of different accounting routes… doesn't look like public accting is your thang. goodluck.

SoLost – I used to work in Governmental accounting and I found the pace of the office I was in to be much slower. The boss was more concerned with “right” rather than “right now”. This may just have been my experience and others may say that my experience is not typical and it may not be. You just have to find your niche. Good Luck!
