My 1 year review is coming up after busy season. People that I’ve talked to say that you can negotiate your salary, but how common is this? I feel like it would be an awkward situation, especially since I work a lot with my partners.

In my first year, I have taken a lot of extra responsibility when people got fired that most first years wouldn’t get. I didn’t even have a 6 month review because I’ve been doing so well, so I feel I am due a solid raise. Especially passing my exam in the first year as well, which the last 4 people in the firm to get their CPA took 3-4 years.

I know I have some leverage, but what’s the best way to go about salary negotiation if I am not offered what I want?
