Salary?

I was wondering if anybody can give me some advice on what kind of salary I should request for a new job that might be offered to me. I have my bachelors, MBA and CPA, and about 2 years of public accounting experience. I no longer want to work in public accounting because it’s making me miserable so I figured that I’d give private accounting a shot. The name of the company is Henry Shein (there a large health care provider) and there located in the NY area.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

***Forgot to mention that it's a staff accounting position.

Unfortunately, I know nothing of the NY market, but maybe check out Robert Half salary guide for the industry/location/job title?

Just let them know you will not be working for peanuts but only for pistachios and a lifetime Netflix subscription only.

Since I am feeling extra helpful, I did your work for you :).

According to Glassdoor, staff accountants at that company get paid between $52 & $56k. Senior accountants get paid between $65 & 70k. It doesn't specify location though – and there are not that many submissions. My guess is that the NY ranges will be a bit higher than that. I'd hit up glassdoor, look at similar companies in NY city and find out what staff accountant positions tend to pay in your city. Since you have a CPA & 2 years in public, you'd definitely be on the higher end of many of the ranges you'll find – as you could potentially be interviewing for senior accountant positions at this stage too.

Personally, I'd definitely want a bump. So if you are making ~$60k now, I'd say something like, ‘based on my research and my level of experience, my expectation for base salary is around $65k+. However base salary is negotiable with the overall compensation package. Further what is really most important at this stage in my career right now is the opportunity – the position, the company, the team and the fit.'
