InactiveIt depends on the office or location. I used Robert Half as a hiring manager and they were helpful and provided good candidates. On the other hand, I have applied for jobs through Robert Half in other cities and the recruiters I talked to were like used car salesmen and it was similar to what mla1169 said above. Ugh.
If a company hires a candidate through an agency or headhunter, the company will pay 10% to 25% of that person's salary as a placement fee. That must be why so many recruiters are so sleazy.

MemberI too used Robert Half, they are a very large Organisation as they branches in Canada and the UK.
In Houston, I did get a lot of job interviews through Robert Half but I also used another recruiting company at the same time. I landed a job through the other recruiter.
Overall RH was okay and the recruiter assigned to me was pretty good. Just the companies I had interviewed with didn't make an offer in time when I accepted the one from the other company. Not that I regret being where I am now 🙂
FAR 05/27/14; 786/110 - Done !

MemberI breifly worked for their affiliate, Accountemps after I got out of Public Accounting… Accountemps and RH are the same company. At the time I was on maternity leave and somewhat desparate to not have to go back and travel for audit. They first tried to get me as a temp then when that wouldn't work they offered me a “salaried professional” job. They needed to fill a temp position at a small CPA firm I was a perfect fit and they were desparate I guess? I didn't feel good about the security of my position with them so I took the job and continued to look. The idea was that I'd be a “consultant” type employee of Accountemps and they would keep me busy and guarantee my hours etc. I did that for about 4 months before I landed my current job.
I did go into the RHI office a few days and I would HATE to work there. It is very sales driven… A huge open space with work stations with phones. People cold calling all around me. The benefits were alright though and the pay was decent. My feeling was that as soon as my project ended I'd be laid off… Oh also, the person I reported to turned over 3 times in 4 months. Not a good sign!
I would still use a recruiter for future job searches, I would just make that one avenue and not be overly loyal or trusting. You can look on your own and even let them know. If they do place you they generally get paid about 20% of your annual salary as a commission so that is really what is driving them even if they say they “really care” about placing people where they will be happy/successful etc. I have one guy in Sacramento that I've dealt with many times and although I totally think he is out for a commission I like getting his perspective on things and keeping in touch. He actually has given me some good info.

ParticipantI did the RH salaried professionals program for a while. If you have a good manager and the economy is good, it is great. I got a lot of experience. But, when my mananger got sick and the economy tanked, I was pretty much on my own. Luckily, I managed to get a job with a company I had consulted with and it worked out well.
RHI puts a lot of pressure on its managers and most only eat what they kill.

MemberWell it's legit, but what I've experienced with them so far (and this might just be me) is that they seem detached and impersonal. All about filling the role and not finding the role for you. I've talked with other recruiters from other agencies that have been much more individualistic when it comes to helping a job seeker find the right fit.
