How is Revenue determine for tax purposes? is it by how many employees work within that state and what are their salary rate is? For example, if a company have business in 3 different state, how does revenue determine for each of the state? Is the revenue earned in each state determine by the # of employees.

Actually im not working on a client tax return. I'm work in the industry and not even in public accounting. I was just looking at the company tax return and the question strike me, so im just curious how revenue was determine.
