Resume Question?

I know this is probably a common question, but I googled and couldn’t find any answers that weren’t from 2009 or earlier. How and where do I include on my resume that I have passed 3 parts of the exam, and have the 4th scheduled (ie anticipate completing all before the end of the year/before starting employment)? I am interviewing at firms now for January 2 start dates, and have my last exam scheduled for the Fall, so am (wishfully) thinking I will have all 4 completed when I start working. Everyone (connections back at university, Becker instructors, etc) have told me “oh yes definitely” that this needs to be on my resume and will be a strong point on it, but no one has told me WHERE and how. Any advice? Thanks!

I haven't passed any, but I just put “CPA Candidate” and execpted licensing time. I applied for my current position in November 2011. I put expected August 2012(haha didnt quite get there…)

    Hope that helps.

@Jeff – Definitely include this one in the list of common questions.

@Brooke – You are going to get a lot of different responses. My response is that it does not belong on your resume. You havent accomplished anything yet. I would, at most, include it in your cover letter. I would definitely bring it up in the interview though.

My career advisor told me to include it under my education in my resume, but I have to admit that I don't really like the presentation. To me it just doesn't fit under education.

I have been struggling with where to put it but I think I am going to put it under professional certifications and memberships.

    B- 8/13/2012- 92
    A- 7/19/2012- 83
    R- 5/30/2012-82
    F- 7/3/2012- 90

Yeah i would, thats what i did, before i got certified. It doesn't hurt, but it might help. Just put passed parts, no need to say will be sitting for the last part soon. It's a given that if you have passed 3, you will be passing the 4th…..and that too soon. You can always mention it during your interview.

Under Education, i would list it at the top after your undergrad / masters degree….

Yeah I have it on my resume under certifications.. “CPA exam parts passed 3 out of 4”. Can't hurt and most employers that I've spoken with look for CPA exam candidates. Even though it doesn't mean anything until all four are passed, its something alot of accounting companies like to see potential employees strive for.

    FAR - 79 (2/25/12)
    AUD - 83 (4/19/12)
    BEC - 80 (5/25/12)
    REG - 82 (8/9/12)

    DONE!! 🙂

    I agree.

    Or something like:

Passed 3 of the 4 CPA exam sections in the state of _________. Experience and ethics test licensure requirements remain incomplete.

I'd put it somewhere near the top of your resume. OR you can exclude it from your resume but include it in your cover letter…

I wouldn't even mention that you “plan” on taking the 4th section in your application materials- that goes without saying – they'll know you're on the path. 3 parts completed already = 3 parts completed and plan to take 4th soon, IMO. That'd be more important to mention in the interview.

    REG - Passed!!
    BEC - Passed
    FAR - Passed
    AUD - Passed
