    Hi,

So I left the Big 4 after a little over 2 years and obtained my CPA. I am now working in industry and have a lot more free time on my hands. I worked doing bookkeeping during college and I was wondering if anyone has any experience working remotely part time doing bookkeeping work?

Where and how did you find the job opening? Is it difficult to get possible job opportunities on board with working remotely?

    Thanks for the input.

I'm a member on FlexJobs, but have also found as much if not more just going to Indeed.com and searching with location “Remote”.

There's a decent number of part-time remote jobs that show up – not like 15 in a single search, but a couple here and there. I haven't applied for the low-hours bookkeeping jobs, so not sure how easy they are to get. Generally speaking, any remote job can have people across the country applying, so there's a lot higher number of applicants for each job (I imagine). Might make it harder to stand out, but someone's gotta get the job, and it might be you. 🙂

    P. S. I love bookkeeping. Who knows, maybe one of these days I'll start a bookkeeping business and do it full time. If I can get my work hours under control, and once my MBA is done, I might look for some low-hours PT bookkeeping. 🙂

Most of the clients I have are people who I worked with in the past. So they already have a sense of commitment, results, and efficiency. I also have one that I picked up from craigslist and only wanted someone to do 16 hours per month. Be aware, some may think you are overpriced but be firm with your quotes. See what others are charging in your area. Currently I have few that are flat fee and depending on the month I can make $45-60 an hour. Some of my older clients I barely break $30 an hour but as a side income it is all good, plus they are the ones who are most flexible when I have busy season. They know they may have to wait… So it all works out.

tips: word of mouth, Craigslist, flexjobs, past employment.

Believe it or not I've been successful repsonding to ads on craigslist for part time bookkeeping that wasn't remote but I gave them a great elevator talk about having a licensed CPA who is a quickbooks pro advisor being able to accomplish remotely in a fraction of the time what an bookkeeper in their office could accomplish, I explained I understand bamk feeds to quickbooks and can eliminate most of the manual entry another bookkeeper would do. Its worked and I've gotten jobs that way.
